Our new hospital is expected to be completed by 2025/2026. Until that day comes, we must find ways to support our current hospital.

The Cowichan District Hospital Foundation is raising funds to increase our hospital’s bed capacity. Doing so, will not only improve the level of care we provide today, but will ensure that the proportionate increase to our operating budget will transfer to our new hospital.

What will increased capacity in our hospital mean to you?

  • Improved patient flow from the Emergency Department through to our wards.
  • A new dementia-friendly unit with rehabilitation services that may allow patients to return home instead of being transferred to a long-term care facility.
  • Outpatient Clinics and Medical Day Care will be moved to the main floor, improving accessibility, infection control and decreasing patient flow in the elevators.
  • The proportionate increase in our operating budget will transfer to our new hospital allowing us to hire more staff and improve medical services to keep our patients local.
